LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Wesleyan women's golf team went 13 years without winning a single tournament, and now they have won two different tournaments during the 2016 Spring season alone.
On Thursday (Apr. 28) the Prairie Wolves shot a team score of 336 to win the Doane College/Kaitlyn Erickson invite that was held at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln. The Prairie Wolves also won the NWU Spring Invite a month ago.
NWU senior
Kelsey Marshall was the individual medalist as she fired a score of 79. Marshall tied Abby Gerhardt of Briar Cliff University but was named the individual winner in a tie-breaker. The score of 79 for Marshall was +8 over par and helped NWU to their outstanding team total of 336.
Two other NWU players finished in the top 10 in the Doane Invite that featured nine different teams.
Sam Beal tied for 7th with a score of 84 and
Kara Pogreba shot 86 to finish 10th place. Rounding out the NWU scoring was
Joselyn Lemm just outside the top ten with an 11th place finish in a round of 87. The fifth Nebraska Wesleyan golfer was
Rachel Petik who shot a score of 94.
Nebraska Wesleyan now prepares for their biggest round of the year at GPAC Qualifier #4 on Monday at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell, S.D. NWU is currently in 3rd place, only two strokes behind the leader. The top two teams earn an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament in Savannah, Georgia later in May.
