Hanna Hegemann Berens

A 2019 graduate of NWU and a standout distance runner, Hanna Hegemann-Berens will be entering her 3rd season specifically working with the Prairie Wolves distance runners. 
 
During her second season, Hanna helped guide the men’s XC team to finish 8th and women 14th at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship. Conner Ross also earned his 1st career Midwest All-Region honor on the cross country course.
 
On the track, the distance squad accumulated five All-Conference performances including the men's conference title in the 4x8 outdoors. The distance group accounted for nine marks that landed on the NWU all-time top 10 charts. Noah Thomas broke both the 5,000 (indoors) and 10,000 freshman records while McKenna Smith broke the 800 (outdoors) freshman record.
 
During her career as an NWU student-athlete, she racked up multiple conference, regional, and national honors. She was a five-time NCAA national qualifier, twice in the steeplechase and three times in her career during the cross country season. In 2019 she finished 9th in the steeplechase at the National Championships. At the NCAA regional level, Hegemann-Berens was a seven-time All-Region performer including a runner up finish at the 2018 NCAA Central Region Championship in cross country.
 
She holds six spots that fall within the top 10 marks in NWU history and was an eight-time All-A-R-C performer. In the spring of 2024, she attained her doctorate at the Roseman University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine. 
 
Hanna and her husband Chad (19’), who is the head cross country coach reside in Lincoln.
